Bushland Beach, a recent residential suburb, formerly in Thuringowa Shire and then in Townsville City (2008), overlooks Halifax Bay. One of the Townsville region's northern beaches, it is 16 km north-west of central Townsville.

Beginning in the 1980s, Bushland Beach attracted many new residents with a combination of natural tree cover and uncongested beach. Developers' hints about a marina and a caravan park did not eventuate, but the Ocean Palms Resort hotel was built. It evolved into a facility for locals and visitors from Townsville. In 2003 Sunland Corporation began a new housing estate, sparking concerns about excessive tree removal, but nevertheless achieving good sales. Residents have convenience and liquor stores, and additional shopping facilities such as an IGA.

The Peggy Banfield Park is in the centre of the suburb.
