Jensen is a rural/residential district 20 km west of central Townsville, bounded on the north by the Bruce Highway and on the west by Alice River. The nearest places for shopping and state schools are Bohlevale, Burdell and Deerangun.

In 1968 rural subdivisions known as Cordelia Estate were put on the market in what was then Thuringowa Shire. In 1991 the district was formally named Jensen by the Queensland Place Names Committee. Jensen Road is one of the district's main thoroughfares. Niels Jensen (1849-1928) was a farmer on the Ross River plains.

Jensen's main public thoroughfare is Veales Road where there are a police station, the Bohlevale Community Centre, the Catholic Parish Centre and the primary campus of St Anthony's School (1992) and the Uniting Church.
