Curra is a village and rural/residential locality on the Bruce Highway, 17 km north-west of Gympie. It is also on the North Coast railway (1881).

The Curra primary school was opened in 1893, but the locality seems to have been sparsely populated. The post office directory in 1911 recorded just seven farmers, a grazier, a sawmill and the one-teacher school. Farmers later concentrated on dairying.

Proximity to Gympie has encouraged rural/residential settlement. On the highway there is the Matilda roadhouse and motel, and district facilities include a golf course and a rural fire brigade. The school closed in 1961.

Curra's census populations have been:

Census Date Population
1911 67
1933 97
2001 1035
2006 1372
2011 1560
