Vincent, a residential suburb, is six km south-west of central Townsville. It was named after Major William Slade Vincent, volunteer and militia soldier.

A suburb of the 1960s-70s, Vincent is positioned between Aitkenvale and Garbutt. Most houses are of the traditional high-set design. Vincent primary school was opened in 1968.

Vincent Village shopping centre (supermarket and 15 shops) is to the west of the school and shares a retail catchment with the suburb of Heatley. Between the school and the shops there is the visual and performing arts campus of James Cook University.
