Mountain Creek is a suburb between Mooloolaba and Buderim, immediately south-west of the Sunshine Motorway/Nicklin Way. The Mountain Creek watercourse drains the southern slopes of the Buderim plateau and empties into the Mooloolah River. The suburb was formally named in 1986.
There are extensive parks and wetlands along the creek as it approaches the Mooloolah River and Nicklin Way, but space was set aside for a district education precinct, with a primary school (1994), a high school (1995) and the Cooloola Sunshine TAFE. The Mountain Creek shopping village is in the same area, and more extensive shopping facilities are in Mooloolaba and at Kawana Shopping world.
Large areas of Mountain Creek adjoining Sunshine Motorway where it meets Kawana Way remain mostly undeveloped, although a new primary school, Brightwater State school, was opened in the east of this locality (also known as Bundilla) in 2012. Mountain Creek's census populations have been:
census date | population |
---|---|
2006 | 6051 |
2011 | 7015 |
